Misnomer- a wrong or inaccurate name
Often I hear from clients or perspective clients that they carry full coverage on their vehicles believing that they are fully covered against all matters as to the operation of their vehicles. While I do understand this term is confusing as in its face it implies that one is fully covered against all acts as it relates to the operation of their automobile it is non the less misleading.
Often insurance agents or their employees inaccurately use the term full coverage to describe liability coverage and comprehensive and collision coverage. Liability insurance is mandatory and covers the negligent acts committed by the insured who is often the owner of a vehicle and in most cases their driver. Comprehensive and collision covers damages to the covered vehicle and normally carries a deductible. There are other coverages such as uninsured/underinsured motorist protection, personal injury protection, med-pay, rental that may be purchased with an auto insurance agent and I will discuss in another blog.
