While I am not an auto insurance agent trying to sell you extra insurance coverages, I am an attorney trying to help you the general public as well as my clients and prior clients understand what auto coverages are out there that can protect you and aid you in unforeseen events. I have discussed liability, comprehensive and collision, uninsured/underinsured motorist protection coverages in other blogs. I now turn our attention to some of the remaining auto insurance coverages you may purchase through your auto insurance agent that may aid you in future accidents.
Personal Injury Protection(PIP) covers a person for medical expenses and 80% of loss income up to the purchased coverage amount. Most PIP policies provide $2500.00 limits, however higher limits of $5,000.00/$10,000.00 or possibly higher may be purchased. PIP does not have to be reimbursed to your auto insurance carrier in the event of a third party settlement.
MedPay covers a person for medical expenses up to the purchased coverage amount. MedPay has to be reimbursed to your insurance carrier in the event of a third party settlement is reached.
Rental Coverage covers a rental vehicle for the insured up to certain number of days and certain dollar amount. For example $40 per day for 30 days of rental.
