IF IN AN ACCIDENT-CALL THE POLICE

Posted by Sergio Villasana | Oct 08, 2024 | 0 Comments

I have come across clients and perspective clients who at the time of an automobile accident the at fault party asked and convinced my clients or perspective clients not to call the police.  It is ill advised not to call the police.  There are times when the at fault party provides false information as far as identifying information or insurance information to the client.  Other times the at fault party just ignores the perspective client's phone calls or gives empty promises of payment.   In some cases the at fault party changes the facts as to how the accident occurred.

Without a police report, video or witnesses it often becomes an issue of my client's or the perspective client's word against the adverse party's word.  It is best to call the police and have the police officer investigate the accident and write an accident report. You can exchange information with the at fault party or if the at fault party is not cooperative ask to police officer to give you the adverse party's information. Please be sure to take pictures at the scene of the accident as to what is relevant to your case.
