For non commercial, the minimum auto liability insurance policy limits in Texas are 30/60/25, which means:
- Bodily injury: $30,000 per person, up to $60,000 per accident
- Property damage: $25,000 per accident
Liability insurance protects the at fault party up to a certain dollar amount for injuries and damages he/she caused. Most insured motorist in Texas carry the minimum auto liability insurance. If the at fault party has the minimum auto liability insurance requirements then the following applies:
The adverse insurance carrier will pay up to $30,000.00 per person regardless of the person's injuries/damages.
The adverse insurance carrier will pay up to $60,000.00 per accident regardless of the number of people presenting a claim and/or their injuries/damages.
The adverse insurance carrier will pay up to $25,000.00 per accident for property damage regardless of the value of the vehicle or vehicles involved.
Texas is a first come first serve state. If you find yourself in a multiparty accident and are facing a minimum policy limits issue then try to settle your claim first before the policy limits are exhausted.
Having underinsured motorist protection and/or comprehensive/collision coverage on your policy may help you in this matter.
